A soft and sweet compilation of underground house melodies. Artists include MAMA, Cameo Culture, Luvless, Payfone, Poolside and Kraak & Smaak.
Whether it be my natural instincts, pure luck or just Spotify’s super precise algorithm, I find more sensational underground house tracks than any other genre. Those repositories continue to grow and grow, and as I compose the HOUSEbeats series, I realized so many stellar downtempo tracks are left out of barneysUNMIXEDtapes. So, I created HOUSEchillz.
I’m not trying to create DJ mixes. The seamlessness of the pros cannot be replaced in this format. Nevertheless, I am curating and programming the playlists as a DJ set would be compiled and the 10-second crossfade allows me to cheaply simulate a technical mix.
Another way to mimic the long format of electronic tracks is to blend an instrumental / dub version with its original. It doesn’t work with every track, but it does beautifully with “Last Night in Sant Celoni” from Payfone and Jaz James. This entire playlist originated from my desire to use this technique with that 14 minutes of sensual bliss.

If you’re not all-in with the underground, but still love to get down, discover your slickest moves through barneysGROOV. Featuring an array of stellar vocals, these mainstream-ish playlists are an outlet for so many of my guilty dance-floor pleasures.
CHILLgroov is where I bottle up our interpretation of the Balearic vibe. Soothing melodies, pillowy beats and delicious vocal treats. You might want to save these ones for when the sun has unfortunately disappeared (or arrived).
listening pleasure
All barneysUNMIXEDtapes have an intended beginning and end. For optimal listening, it’s recommended you listen to the playlist in the order it’s programmed, NOT on shuffle.
The tracks are obviously UNMIXED, but set the crossfade feature in Spotify’s Playback settings to 10 seconds for smoother transitions. If you’re listening on Sonos, 10 seconds is the default.
