I enrolled in my first Web Design course at CDI College in 2003. Admittedly, I didn’t become much of a web designer after that class; however, it did help me become well-informed on the entire life-cycle of a website. In that class, I built my first HTML site for bringthebeats, but when I upgraded it to the WordPress platform in 2006, I knew content management systems were more my thing.

Throughout my career, I’ve managed dozens of websites and have worked within an array of content management systems. I’ve also continued to take courses in user experience and front-end web development, so I'm able to use simple code to create unique designs. In the end, I put together low-cost websites that can be easily updated and managed by myself or by my clients themselves. If you already have a website that needs some finessing, I’m your guy for that too.

MY SERVICE

If you’re a small business or hobbyist looking for your first website, Squarespace is my platform of choice. If you have a point-of-sale service with Shopify or Square, I've also built websites on those platforms and will accommodate your preference. At this time, I’m not really interested in using any other platforms to build a website from conception, but for the right project, you can maybe twist my arm.

I have extensive experience with WordPress and several other CMS, so if you simply require a cleanup of your site (i.e. improve your search engine optimization), I can help with that as well. I can also transition your website to Squarespace, if that's of interest to you. If your project requires some more intensive development or design work than I can offer, I have relationships with experts in both areas, so no project is truly beyond my depth.

Together we will work through a discovery process to decide which solution is best for you. The amount of time, effort and interest you have to invest in your website—throughout the build and once it’s live—will determine the platform solution that’s best for you.

    • Squarespace is a drag-and-drop website builder that offers professionally-designed templates tailored to your industry, or you can build your own using AI tools.

    • It provides add-on functionality to set up an e-commerce store, book appointments or sell your skills.

    • There is also an email campaign and social media tools that allow you to market your website directly from the platform.

    • Squarespace is a low-maintenance website solution, as it performs all security updates automatically and their sites are easily optimized for mobile.

  • Your annual costs will vary depending on the depth of the services required. Here are some of Squarespace’s annual costs:

    • Domain $36 CAN - With website plans, the first year of your domain hosting is free. If you own your domain with another service, it can be connected to your Squarespace site.

    • Basic Website Hosting $252 CAN - Includes template with designer font combinations and colour palettes, as well as basic web metrics.

    • Business Website Hosting $384 CAN - Includes Basic features + custom code functionality, advanced metrics and fully integrated e-commerce w/ 3% transaction fee.

    • Commerce Basic Website Hosting $432 CAN - Includes Business features + fully integrated e-commerce w/ no transaction fee and advanced merchandising tools.

    • Commerce Advanced Website Hosting $432 CAN - Includes Commerce Basic features + advanced shipping and discounting options, as well as the ability to sell subscriptions

    There are several add-ons that can be integrated into your site at an additional cost; including Google Workspace, Acuity Scheduling, Courses, Invoicing and an array of marketing tools and other extensions that will supercharge your website.
