A booty-shaking, body-sculpting playlist filled with good-time grooves. Artists include The Knocks, Jaded, Method Man, Foals, Janelle Monáe, Lenny Kravitz and The Jungle Giants.

This playlist was originally titled barneysBOXINGbeats. I wanted to create something accessible to the masses, that will also give my boxing classes at Totum Life Science a little taste of the bringthebeats underground. The energy is high throughout, to keep the class in constant motion for the entire hour. But I also try to keep the playlist light-hearted and familiar.

As a result of it’s “mainstream” nature, I thought this series would be the perfect compliment to the HOUSEgroov series as the night-time / club vibe, so I renamed the series BTBgroov. It’s all about introducing people to the joy of modern dance music, without completely overwhelming them with the underground sounds featured on bringthebeats. When I fell in love with dance music in the late 1990’s, the energy of big-room trance was my entry point, but why not big-room house in the 2020’s?!

The BTBgroov series is where I’ll include the super cool remixed tracks I discover. So many popular artists and their songs are finding their way into the dance scene and few stars are brighter than Janelle Monáe and Lenny Kravitz. The “Make Me Feel / Low” combo proves electronic grooves can take even the most legendary of talents to the next level.

As mentioned above, the groov series is also about introducing people to a scene that has captured my heart and soul for over two decades and counting. I’ll always include some selections on the cusp of the underground, so the listener can feel the allure this music has over me. I think this playlist concludes with a few that might take hold of you too.
