A soulful groove that proves from the start, in the world of pop, girls (mostly) rule! Artists include Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Lopez, Spice Girls, Robyn, Kylie Minogue and Madonna.

Ever since I realized the best place to sing is in the shower and that you should always dance like nobody’s watching, I’ve loved the cheesiest, “girliest” pop music. I tried to tune into the Grammy’s, JUNO’s, AMA’s, MTV VVA’s and MMVA’s from the time I could turn on the television myself and it was in those shows where I first saw women truly on top.

Yeah, Michael was the King of Pop, but Janet was a total entity of her own. Madonna did what she wanted, said what she wanted and didn’t care one bit if you liked her or not. In my eyes, pop music provided power to women and as a guy who adored his single mother very much, that was comforting to see, well deserved and long overdue.

Robyn, Kylie Minogue and Madonna are full-on club kids. Their stunning voices and remixes are staples in many DJ’s music collections and now my collection as well. I’ve programmed in the dance mix of Jennifer Page’s “Crush” because it too has an infectious groove. After all these years, these mega-stars can still put me in the best mood.
